Consumer price index reached its historical low in January

In January, the consumer price index (CPI) deviated by 0.2%, thus falling to the lowest level in that month in the Ukrainian statistical monitoring history. Following the annual-based estimates, the headline inflation is still decreasing - this trend has been observed since the latter half of 2011. Per annual-based estimates, in January the headline inflation reached 3.7% being the lowest value for the recent 9 years.

The State Statistics Service of Ukraine regularly revises the list of goods and services included in the market basket for the CPI estimation, which is explained by changes in the population’s consumption pattern. Since 2012 the estimation of price changes in the market basket has included 335 components (the previous market basket consisted of 296 components). At the same time, insignificant corrections have applied to inclusion of specific components in the core inflation.

Following the annual-based estimates, the core inflation decreased to 6.6% (the reference consumer price index did not change in January).
