CreditMarket Index: a mean effective rate on credits for home appliances and electronics stabilized at 129.14%

On 14 November 2012, CreditMarket Consumer Loan Index stood still at 129.14%, just as on 31 October, against 139.02% recorded on 17 October 2012 (an effective rate on credits for home appliances and electronics per annum, in UAH). The information is as of 14 November 2012.

Denis Rakovsky, Sales Director at KreditMarket: “An effective rate on credits for home appliances and electronics has been stable at 129.14% for a month. Recall that the highest point ever (142.77%) was recorded on 22 August 2012, and in a month, on 19 September, this index returned to the previous value of 139.02%.

Since the previous calculation one bank (Platinum Bank) from our CreditMarket Consumer Loan Index list has changed its terms on consumer loans. It decreased the loan set-up fee to zero and reduced the monthly loan service fee. However, these changes did not affect the CreditMarket Consumer Loan Index.

In our opinion, the preserved high value of CreditMarket Consumer Loan Index is mainly explained by the significant deficiency of hryvnia resources in the Ukrainian loan market, as well as high risks implied by this loan product.

In the short term we do not predict any considerable variation in the cost of loans for home appliances. The mean effective rate on credits for home appliances and electronics will keep on varying, but within a narrow range. On the one hand, the current market situation favours this segment growth, strengthening of the competition and, as a result, decreasing cost of loans. On the other hand, the preserved deficiency of resources in the market does not facilitate any rate decrease. Also, we need to mention a seasonal burst of activity expected in December in this market. It may affect the lending terms.”
