Ukrainian banks boost deposits against decreasing credits in portfolios

Credit portfolios are growing gradually in the Ukrainian banking system. In absolute terms, however, they have not reached the level of 1 January 2012 yet.

As of 1 November 2012, the banking capital totalled UAH 169.9 bn. or 15.1% liabilities against UAH 165.6 bn. (equivalent of USD 20.9 bn. at the NBU rate, 15.0% liabilities) recorded on 1 September 2012. For eleven months of 2012 the capital has increased by 5.53%, whereas it went up by 16.9% in 2011, and it totalled UAH 161.0 bn. as of 01.01.2012 (equivalent of USD 20.15 bn. at the NBU rate). In addition, through May the capital did not go up, and it even decreased occasionally. Intensive capital growth has been recorded since June 2012.

Contributed authorized capital stock of banks reached UAH 174.5 bn. as of 1 November 2012 – it insignificantly increased against UAH 172.5 bn. as of 1 September 2012. In 2011, this index went up by 17.8%.

As of 1 November 2012, banking liabilities totalled UAH 954.2 bn. after increasing from UAH 938.9 bn. recorded on 1 September. For the first eight months of 2012 banking liabilities have increased by 6.3%. Following results of 2011, the liabilities went up by 11.6%, to UAH 897.6 bn. (equivalent of USD 112.34 bn. at the NBU rate).

We’d like to stress that funds of individuals were growing at outrunning rates: their liability share increased to 36.8%, though it reached 33.7% on 1 January 2011.

As of 1 November 2012, assets of the Ukrainian banks increased to UAH 1,124.0 bn., and the general assets – to UAH 1,268.8 bn. against UAH 1,104.5 bn. and UAH 1,248.1 bn., respectively, recorded on 1 September.

For eleven months of 2012 assets of the Ukrainian banks have increased by 6.18%. At the same time, in 2011 assets of the Ukrainian banks grew by 12.4%, and on 1 January 2012 they totalled UAH 1,058.6 bn. For eleven months the general assets have increased by 4.61% against UAH 1,212.9 bn. recorded on 1 January 2012 (the equivalent of USD 151.8 bn. at the NBU rate). This index went up by 11.26% in 2011.

Since the year beginning the loan portfolio has decreased by 1.03%, to UAH 823.5 bn.

As of 1 November 2012, 177 Ukrainian banks got licenses for banking operations issued by the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU). One bank has the remedial bank’s license.

On 1 November 2012, the official UAH rate was UAH 799.3/USD 100.
