CreditMarket Cash Loan Index: a mean effective rate on cash loans has sharply decreased

On 25 December 2012, CreditMarket Cash Loan Index decreased to 107.16% from 112.01% recorded on 27 November and 11 December 2012 (an effective rate on cash loans per annum, in UAH). The information is as of 25 December 2012.

Denis Rakovsky, Sales Director at KreditMarket: “The mean effective rate on cash loans, which was steady at around 112% (112.01% recorded on 11 December and 27 November, 112.02% recorded on 13 November) for three times of calculation, has decreased by as much as 4.85 p. p., to 107.16% by the current calculation.

For two weeks since the last calculation one bank (VTB Bank) from our CreditMarket Cash Loan Index list has significantly changed its conditions for cash loan granting: it has decreased the nominal interest rate, lowered the loan set-up fee and the life insurance cost to zero. However, at the same time, they significantly increased the monthly service fee.

As we mentioned many times, CreditMarket Cash Loan Index is one of the most volatile indices reflecting tough competition in the short-term unsecured lending segment. Current changes are most likely related to the competitive struggle and searching for optimal conditions. In addition, these changes may be attributed to the pre-New Year activity of banks.

In the mid-term, as before, we leave open the possibility that actively crediting banks may continue looking for an optimal set of conditions that can result in fluctuations of CreditMarket Cash Loan Index around the current values. However, the present high cost of credit resources and decrease of the customer base quality will not allow reducing the cost of no-purpose unsecured cash loans significantly.”
