CreditMarket Index: a mean effective rate on credits for home appliances and electronics keeps steady at 129.14%

On 27 December 2012, CreditMarket Consumer Loan Index stood still at 129.14% reached on 31 October, and it has not moved since then (an effective rate on credits for home appliances and electronics per annum, in UAH). The information is as of 27 December 2012.

Denys Rakovsky, Sales Director at KreditMarket: “An effective rate on credits for home appliances and electronics has been stable at 129.14% for almost two months - since 31 October 2012. Recall that the highest point (142.77%) was recorded on 22 August 2012, and in a month, on 19 September, this index returned to the previous value of 139.02% and kept unchanged through 17 October.

Since the previous calculation, one bank (Alfa Bank) from our CreditMarket Consumer Loan Index list has changed its terms on consumer loans. It has lowered the loan set-up fee to zero, but the bank has almost doubled the monthly loan service commission and added the life insurance service. In total, these changes did not affect the mean effective rate on consumer credits.

The continuous deficiency of hryvnia resources in the Ukrainian credit market keeps CreditMarket Consumer Loan Index at the high level. In addition, establishment of prices for credit products covering home appliances and electronics depends in no small part on high loan risks.

In the short term, we do not predict any considerable variation in the cost of loans for home appliances. The mean effective rate on credits for home appliances and electronics will keep on changing, but within a narrow range. On the one hand, the current market situation favours this segment growth, strengthening of the competition and, as a result, decreasing cost of loans. On the other hand, the preserved deficiency of resources in the market does not facilitate any rate decrease. Also, we need to mention that a seasonal burst of activity expected in December in this market had no significant impact on the home appliance and electronics loan terms.”
