CreditMarket Index: effective rates on car loans increased to 46.48

On 28 January 2013, Credit Market Car Loan Index reached 46.48% against 45.99% recorded on 18 December 2012 (the effective rate on new car loans per annum, in UAH). The information is as of 28 January 2013.

Denis Rakovsky, Sales Director at KreditMarket: “The effective rate on car loans is growing again after a temporary stabilization in late December. This time it went up by 0.49 p. p., to 46.48%. It is the next highest point reached by Credit Market Car Loan Index (with regard to terms of standard credits non-subsidized by car producers). For your information: the previous highest value was recorded on 6 November 2012 (45.52%), and the lowest point was reached in July 2011 (34.44%). For the last two weeks since the previous calculation, two banks from our CreditMarket Car Loan Index list (VTB Bank and PUMB) have changed their terms for this crediting type. PUMB added the life insurance service, and VTB increased the nominal interest rate. Moreover, appearance of the new bank on the index list (Pravex Bank) could have affected Credit Market Car Loan Index. The situation in the Ukrainian credit resource market has been constantly tense for as long as almost six months. In addition, despite an active sale of 2012 car models, we could not observe a traditional year-end activity burst in the car crediting market, the banks failed to offer cheaper credits. At the same time, it is known that today car importers and dealers are very interested in sales promotion and are working diligently to free their warehouses from the current year’s cars to start selling the next year car models. However, special terms of subsidy provision by car importers and car produces may cover specific models and configurations, and their sales need to be promoted most aggressively. Nevertheless, we leave open the possibility of some rate decrease in the second half of winter if the monetary policy easing recently announced by the National Bank of Ukraine is implemented.”
